Understanding Static Fitting
Static fitting uses your height and wrist-to-floor measurements to determine optimal club length and lie angle. This method is the industry-standard starting point used by major OEMs and independent fitters worldwide.
Length Adjustment
Length adjustment indicates how much longer or shorter your clubs should be compared to standard specifications. This is typically measured in 0.25" increments and applies to all clubs in your set.
Lie Angle Adjustment
Lie angle is the angle between the club shaft and the ground at address. Proper lie angle ensures the sole sits flat at impact, promoting solid contact and straight ball flight. Adjustments are typically in 0.5° increments.
Dynamic Fitting Recommended
Static fitting provides an excellent baseline, but OEMs and fitters recommend confirming with dynamic fitting (analyzing impact and ball flight). This is especially important if your proportions are outside the average range.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why measure with shoes on?
You play golf wearing shoes, so measurements with shoes provide the most accurate fitting baseline. Athletic or golf shoes with typical heel height should be worn during measurement.
How accurate is static fitting?
Static fitting based on height and wrist-to-floor measurements is highly reliable and used industry-wide as the starting point. However, dynamic fitting (analyzing your actual swing and ball flight) is recommended to fine-tune specifications.
What if I have unusual proportions?
If your proportions fall outside the average range, the calculator will flag this and suggest confirming with dynamic fitting. Extreme proportions may require additional adjustments that can only be determined by observing your swing and impact.
Can length and lie angle trade off?
Some club builders use small trade-offs (roughly ½" per 2°) when extreme lie angles are needed. However, this is a build consideration, not part of the fitting calculation. Both length and lie should ideally be optimized independently.
